SCP-184/001: The Architect/The Truth

SCP-184
Welcome back to SCP: Uncovered! Today I'm going over one that's simple in concept, but takes it to a whole new level. This SCP will be divided into 2 parts. The Architect, and The Truth. The Architect will be going over the SCP article, while The Truth will go over the tale that comes with it. Let's get started, but first - some vocabulary.

  • The Administrator: Essentially the leader of the Foundation. Depending on what canon you follow, he is either alive, dead, or never existed in the first place. In this case, he exists and is above the O5 council.
  • SCP-001: In essence, the most important SCP. SCP-001 is separated into SCP-001 Proposals, with none, one, or several of these files being the true SCP-001. These are normally extremely high quality SCPs written by some of the most well known authors on the SCP wiki that sometimes delve into the depths of SCP Foundation lore.
  • Sarkicism (Sarkic): A cult of religious fanatics that practice ritual cannibalism and have beliefs based on apotheosis and organic manipulation. For a more detailed explanation, read the overview of the Sarkicism Hub.
Part 1: The Architect

The description is pretty simple, so I don't have to copy it onto here. SCP-184 is essentially a little thingy that can expand rooms. It keeps expanding it until it reaches a certain point, then copies the room.

Initially, they're perfect copies of the room. However, after a while, it'll start to have some errors. If you read The Personal Log of Gordon Richard, it'll tell you the whole story behind it and the Kowloon Walled City. However, the entire thing can be summarized with a few sentences.
I have never seen such a horrible place. The filth is everywhere, whole walls and even structures made of garbage. If you crack your suit for even a second, you get flooded with the smell of smoke, cooking, sweat, machine oil, and excrement.
Pretty terrible things. The entire city was copied by SCP-184 so many times that eventually the matter that made it up was essentially garbage. He even reaches a room made entirely out of lights... without a power source. These are the horrors that SCP-184 makes. However, the Special Containment Procedures are quite interesting.
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-184 is not to be contained in any structure. SCP-184 is to be attached to a high-power electromagnet at all times. Should the electromagnet fail, agents are to report to SCP-184's containment area and prevent access to all unauthorized personnel until the electromagnet is returned to power. The containment area for SCP-184 is currently configured to resemble a park with SCP-184 and its containment magnet disguised as a statuary. Any and all visitors are to be monitored.
Any structures affected by SCP-184 are to be demolished after review by [DATA EXPUNGED]. Final demolition approval or inclusion into SCP will also be determined by this body. No investigation is to be done into affected structures without approval and a rescue team on standby.
Pretty simple. Keep SCP-184 in an electromagnet at all times. If it fails, secure it. Now the interesting part about this is that it says for it to not be contained in any structure. Smart. They don't want a repeat of the Kowloon Walled City... but click that link and you'll see a huge problem.

Part 2: The Truth

Note that the tale starts off with a quote from the Administrator.
What is the easiest way of hiding the identity of SCP-001?
This cryptic line will be explained later. What is said, however, is that the Administrator claims that every SCP-001 proposal is fake.

This is an extremely long tale, so I recommend you read through it before going here, as I will be skipping most of the sections to save time.

The first 2 logs are simply exposition, revealing the characters Frank and David. They're on a spacecraft that's made for intergalactic travel and starts off with some normal human activities, like sleeping and eating. Now, Frank and David say something interesting.
Frank: It's been eighteen days, four hours, and nineteen minutes, since we launched. We're still traveling at max throttle so there's nothing much to see outside other than darkness, since we're going faster than the speed of light. Much faster. But erm, yeah. We recently passed... hey David, what's the name of that place we just went past? Messy-something? Yeah, but like the closest one. Pardon?
David: Messier Eighty-Three!
Messier Eighty-Three is a galaxy about 15.04 million light years away. They got there in 18 days, four hours, and nineteen minutes. Doing the math, that's about... 302,167,324C or 302,167,324 times the speed of light. That is really darn fast.

2 months and 24 days after launch, they've passed GN-z11, the most distant galaxy found to date. It's about 32 billion light years away. They are now out of view of Earth's telescopes. However, other than complaints about how the food tastes, there's nothing going wrong as of yet.

Now, the crew of the spacecraft realize something. They found a near-perfect replica of the Milky Way Galaxy. I say near, because things are... different to say the least. Some of the stars that they thought were missing were actually there... just made of some of the strangest stuff.

One of the stars in the binary star system, Epsilon Boรถtis, was made out of ice cream. They took a sample and apparently it tasted like: "avocados and cigarette smoke." The other one was made completely out of chlorophyll. Antares is solid iodine, and Proxima Centauri is charcoal. When they finally got to "Earth..."
Frank: You can see it's Earth, all the continents are there and shaped right, but they're made of the wrong stuff. Australia's a solid block of gold, the oceans glow blue, the whole American continent is made of maple syrup...
They decide to collect as much information as they can and move on to the next galaxy. A predicament also arises from the inside the ship. A crew member named Marie is found to be pregnant. They decide not to talk about it in case it wasn't her husband's.

They continue going on, but all they find is progressively more and more screwed up Milky Way galaxies, with Mercury being ice, Earth being a "Sarkic Utopia" (being made of flesh and blood), and other crazy things.

They keep continuing until the universe itself starts failing, having pockets of where technology fails and they drift, until it suddenly picks back up as if nothing happened. They find sapient anomalies, but no humans. Security is for some reason beefed up around Marie, with security teams armed to the teeth with guns and grenades.

11 months into the trip, the find 2 anomalies that can be classified as other SCPs.
The sun is encompassed in a shell of chitin, and is colonized by vast hordes of stone that shift and move whenever we stop looking at them.
SCP-173
Uranus is nothing but a silent lattice of turning gears.
SCP-882 or SCP-914
Now right after that log... all hell breaks loose. Marie apparently gives birth to some eldritch horror that kills most of the crew. Security apparently can't contain it either. Frank states that this place isn't normal. It just keeps expanding and duplicating.

Lightbulb.
Of course. Why wouldn't it with [DATA EXPUNGED] outside. Did the Overseers already know what we would find? Or did they just want it confirmed?
What expands rooms whenever it's placed inside of them? You know what it is. Presumably, the baby wasn't Marie's either. It could've been planted by the O5 council so that none of them would live to make it back. All they needed was the information. This is also shown by what he states next, about how the cafeteria only spews out rat poison now. Again, planted by the O5s.

The final paragraph states that the information you just read would never see the light of day, for it would go straight to the highest ranks in the Foundation, who would act on it immediately.

Now, the Administrator asks the same question again.
What is the easiest way of hiding the identity of SCP-001, the architect of the universe and its infinite hordes of flaws?
Don't classify it as SCP-001.

Yes, in this canon, SCP-184 is the creator of the universe. The entire reason why we have all these homicidal monsters and ancient gods is because of a tiny dodecahedron that expands things.

TL;DR: Little ball like to  E X P A N D. Lots of  E X P A N D  creates universe with monsters.

SCP-2719: "Inside"

Item #: SCP-2719
Object Class: Keter

Tags: ConceptDoctor BrightKeterSCP

Example of a Computer Science Pointer

SCP-2719 is probably the most complex SCP I've seen thus far. However, it doesn't do this by having complex wording, or having really long descriptions. It does this by putting everything in a cause and effect table. Don't get what I mean? You'll see.

Before we start this SCP, here's some vocabulary you'll need to know.

  • O5: The heads of the Foundation. There are 13 seats within the O5 council and each person that's a part of it is referred as O5-#.
  • D-Class Personnel: The "expendable" personnel. Previous canon has suggested that they're prison inmates selected from death row.
  • Dr. Bright: A researcher who was killed while researching SCP-963. Previous researchers had always committed suicide while researching SCP-963, but he was killed, activating its effects. His consciousness was then put into SCP-963 and whoever wears SCP-963 then, in effect, becomes Dr. Jack Bright.

Now that that's over with, let's begin!
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-2719 should be kept inside.
A containment that takes only 1 simple sentence? Not only that, it's quite vague. What does it mean by inside? Guess we'll find out in the description.
Description:
SCP-2719 is a variable abstract-metaphysical construct pointer.
Whoa whoa whoa. Let's stop here for a second. Variable abstract-metaphysical construct pointer. What in the world does that mean? Let's break this down word by word.

Variable - A variable is essentially something whose value isn't predictable and is subject to change. Think to mathematics, like x or y.

Abstract-Metaphysical - Abstract means something that exists in thought, but doesn't have a physical or concrete existence. Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy that deals with and studies the essence of "things" and means "above the physical". This includes abstract concepts like being, knowing, substance, cause, etc. So essentially, Abstract-Metaphysical means to go even further beyond metaphysics, AKA the essence of the essence of "things".

Confusing, right? We're just getting started.

Construct Pointer - A construct as a noun means something that is built. A pointer in Computer Science is an object that can reference another value and obtain that value.

So combining all of those terms, SCP-2719 is a conceptual object that can show or define an unpredictable abstract property of some other object. This is a good place to start.

Continuing the description...
Further information on SCP-2719 should not be provided to personnel who are both sapient and biological.
Darn. This is all the information we can get. However, SCP-2719 includes a huge experimentation log, and that can give us all the information we need to crack open this SCP.

Some additional information: The pointer can define something as "go inside" or "become inside". These names somehow affect reality, as you'll see in the experimentaion logs. Let's take a look.

Experimentation Log

Pointer Outcome
2008 Opel Astra Was Inside.
D-5789 Went Inside.
D-5794 Went Inside.
D-5796 Became Inside.
D-5802 Went Inside. Inside Distressed.
Containment Unit 2719-A Went Inside. Inside dies.

Let's stop here for a moment. So at the moment of discovery, Inside was a 2008 Opel Astra car. The Foundation then decided to test 2719 out a bit. The first 2 D-class personnel go inside. When they try using the pointer on another D-class, the pointer defines him as Inside instead of making him go in. They continue testing and the next D-class gets sent inside, making poor D-5796 freak out. They try to redefine Inside to a containment unit, but that unfortunately fails, killing D-5796 presumably gorily. Ouch.

Containment Unit 2719-B Went Inside.
Containment Unit 2719-C Became Inside.

The Foundation tries a few more times to make a containment unit become Inside. Following that is a few lines of testing SCP-2719 with D-class personnel. Nothing special about that. What IS special, however, is what follows it.

Oulu, Finland Became Inside.
Population of Oulu, Finland Went Inside. (Successful use as evacuation procedure)

Now this part is interesting. The Foundation uses SCP-2719 to evacuate a city, by designating an entire city as a variable and defining it with the population. Somehow, through some kind of reality-bending, it worked.

At this point, the Foundation realizes how much potential it has, and tries to neutralize one of its most infamous SCPs, SCP-682. Here's what happened:

Containment Unit 682-V Became Inside.
SCP-682 Went Inside.
SCP-682 Became Inside.
SCP-682 Went Inside.
SCP-682 Went Inside.
SCP-682 Went Inside.
SCP-682 Outside.

So if you don't know, SCP-682 is a keter SCP that has escaped containment so many times and is so deadly, that researchers are trying to neutralize it by any means possible. However, this is extremely hard because it always adapts to the form of neutralization, making it stronger each time. They even tried to kill it by changing the laws of physics, but it simply turned into an exotic form of matter. So, this time, they tried to use SCP-2719.

It seems to work in the beginning, and it appears to be contained for a bit. However, then it adapts, as it always does. "Outside". It either refused to define SCP-682 any longer, or it was somehow redirected somewhere else. Guess they'll have to try something else.

Now from this point on, the Foundation's personnel realize how much power this one SCP has, and try to use it for personal gain and/or vendettas.

O5 Became Inside.
Dr. Zermelo Went Inside.
Punishment Became Inside.
O5-7 Went Inside.

So it is assumed that Dr. Zermelo, seeking power, decides to set the variable to a position of power, AKA the O5s. He goes inside and presumable becomes an O5, all the while sending O5-7 into a place labeled "Punishment," and most likely takes his place at the O5 council. Sounds unpleasant.

Dr. Bright Became Inside.
Intestinal Distress Outside. (Nice Try)
Intestinal Distress  Became Inside.
Dr. ████ Went Inside. (Now don't do it again.)

Now apparently some researcher decides to try and give Dr. Bright intestinal distress, but it fails somehow, labeling it as "Outside." Now Dr. Bright presumably finds out and sends Dr. ████ into Intestinal Distress.

Now, the pointer is used to evacuate another city again, but this time in Australia. It works out fine. However, now the O5s are interested in SCP-2719.

Transcendence Became Inside.
O5-1 Became Inside.
Transcendence  Became Inside.
O5-2 Became Inside.
Transcendence Became Inside.
O5-3 Became Inside.
Transcendence Became Inside.
O5-4 Went Inside.
Transcendence Outside.
Transcendence Outside.
Transcendence Outside.

The O5s see this as a chance to "Transcend," whatever that means. O5s 1-3 use the pointer, set "Transcendence" to Inside, and tries to go inside. However, either the pointer or the universe doesn't want to comply with that, so it keeps making them become inside instead of going inside. After they fail, O5-4 comes in and succeeds in "Transcending."

After that succeeds for him, all other attempts of even making "Transcendence" become inside fails, redirecting to "Outside." Either O5-4 is blocking the path to Transcendence, or the universe only allows one. Either way, O5-4 is going to be the only ascended individual for quite a while.

So let's circle back to the containment procedures.
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-2719 should be kept inside.
So what exactly does this mean? It means that SCP-2719 should not only point to Inside, but Inside should point to it as well. Thus, we are containing SCP-2719 inside itself. It should be both the definition of Inside, and what is actually Inside. However, we ignored a line in the description.
Further information on SCP-2719 should not be provided to personnel who are both sapient and biological.
The reason for this is because SCP-2719 is currently containing itself. If you don't know how to redirect it, you can't access it. However, humans can. Therefore, no information about it is to be given to personnel who are both sapient and biological. If any information leaks out, people who know how to control it can essentially redefine reality as anything they want, as seen from O5-4's transcendence.

Inside can be anything. A location. A state of being. A description. A name. An idea. So, if you can create a pointer that can access all of those, and assign the meaning of Inside to anything, what can't you do?

Summary:
In short, SCP-2719 is a tool or interface that can point to an object and assign it the value of Inside. People are not to be given any further information, otherwise it's free omnipotence to whoever can find it out for themselves.

The issue with SCP-2719 is that it holds a key phrase: "assigns the pointed-to object the value of inside." What does it mean to be Inside? It's this vagueness that can make an object then become the universal definition of Inside, or that the object then goes inside of whatever definition Inside is.

That's the story of this SCP. Wouldn't it be great to have omnipotence? Only O5-4 knows.

TL;DR:
Inside of Inside of Inside of Inside of Inside... oh look I'm omnipotent.

SCP-2764: "Eldritch Antarctic" Part 2/2

SCP-2764 Containment Zone (Red Circle)
Welcome back to SCP: Uncovered's explanation of SCP-2764. Last week we learned about Mann and his team going to investigate SCP-2764 and SCP-2764 apparently warning them to turn back. So without further ado, let's continue on with Day 9.

Day 9: Once again, the creature has disappeared. I am seriously worried about our safety. Not only is the anomaly a main issue, but the antarctic is a frigid, stark place. I feel as though we will not make any more progress toward the creature itself, and its eerie statement last night has seriously stricken terror in me after I've given it more thought.

Joseph Mann

Day 9, Morning: The tracks have led us back to one of our oldest tents. I am thoroughly confused by this. I will continue to log events in this log to the best of my ability.

Joseph Mann

Day 9, Before Noon: Something has been following us this entire time, since Day 1. To be frank, I do not care about the thing out there any longer. Something has been following us, and explains the strange tracks in the snow. We were not following them forward. We were following them backward.

Joseph

Day 9, Afternoon: I have come to the realization that I am now alone. Where I once heard the comforting sound of human footsteps crunching the snow behind me, I now hear nothing but the hollow wind and emptiness.

Joseph

Leave

Day 9, Late Afternoon: I lost my log in the snow a few hours ago. It was a simple mishap, but I recovered it without any incident. It was a little wet, but otherwise untouched. I just took notice of the one word entry above. I am trying to work out at what point I entered this, but I can't recall the point at which I did this for the life of me.

Joseph

Day 9, Late Afternoon: It feels like it has been days since I last updated this log, but I know it cannot have been, as the sun has not set, and I've only eaten one meal during this time. To be frank,

Day 9, Late Afternoon: It was a requirement for me to abruptly end my last entry. I heard movement circling me, and upon closer inspection, I saw the beast. The beast itself was circling me. As fast as I could, I approached the thing and skinned a sample of tissue off of its torso before it could skitter off with its horrible spastic tentacles. The tissue analyzer came up as a zero, that is, the tissue analyzer recorded no difference between this creature's tissue and a human's tissue. I will have to run confidence tests on this, because I refuse to believe it until all evidence points to this thing being somehow related to humans.

Joseph

Day 9, Evening: I've set up a tent. I want to get my mind off of this situation for a small while. I've set up a lantern and strewn out a towel on which I will eat dinner and read a book. Then I will get back to the walk, and I will likely skip sleep tonight.

Joseph

Day 9, Midnight: The book seemed to quiet the voice. It was a peaceful hour, but I knew that I would have to leave as soon as I could. The sooner I get back to base, the sooner they can analyze all this data from the tissue analyzer and make a sound conclusion about the tissue. My personal belief is that my analyzer is broken, but I've stored the tissue in my pack, so the guys at the base should have no issue running it through again.

Joseph
So we just got a bunch of exposition dumped on us on this one day. So at the beginning of the day, the creature disappears once again. Mann feels that his life is in danger, and wants to end the expedition already. Also, you can see that his writings are also getting more frantic. Previously, his name was always signed as "Signed, J. Mann," but now it simply says "Joseph Mann." To continue, he follows the tracks... back to the oldest encampment.

To add to the tension, right before noon, he states that something has been following him. Once it reaches the afternoon however, he realizes that his teammates are gone. He is completely and utterly alone. Now here's the weird part of the story. "Leave." A one word entry with no signature. He even states that he doesn't recall writing this entry. How interesting.

The next entry ends abruptly, with the next one revealing that he was at that point being circled by the SCP-2764. He gathers his courage and gets a flesh sample of the beast. Now here's the kicker. There is no difference between SCP-2764's flesh and human flesh. No difference whatsoever. Completely identical. Obviously, Mann is terrified by this and believes that his tissue analyzer is broken. Why else would a lovecraftian eldritch monster in the antarctic be identical to humans? On to the final Investigation Log we go!

Investigation Log, Day [10-11]

Day 10: I am almost back at base, but I see some guys coming over the snow hill. I assume they are looking for me, so I need to warn them not to go any further inward.

Joseph
Day 10, Morning: These folks are approaching me awfully slowly. They've taken time to set up camp, which is strange, because if they are looking for me, which is undoubtedly the case, then they are taking an unnecessary break, as I am no more than half a mile away.
This seems awfully familiar. What happened on Day 4 Morning?
Day 10, Before Noon: They made some slow but steady progress toward my location, and then they decided to turn back. I suspect that the spacial anomaly is affecting our distance, because as I stated previously, we are only about half a mile apart. Why they are turning back, I haven't got a clue.
What's this? They turned back? Think about Day 5 Afternoon...
Day 10, Afternoon: A few things. The tracks in the snow have disappeared, as with the voice. I have gotten far enough away from the thing, I assume. And the beast has reappeared. About southeast, exactly where it should be. It is strangely comforting, but I still intend to return to base.
The tracks are gone and the beast reappears. Day 7 Afternoon.
Day 10, Evening: The three guys are now approaching me again. They make frequent stops, which I suppose I don't blame them. I must seem to be miles away from their perspective. But it is certain, they are coming for me now. I know they can see me.

Day 10, Midnight: At this point I have completely given up on traveling on my own. Progress is heavily stymied by this spacial anomaly. I can barely make it a few feet after a long day of travel. I'm very scared, and I hope these guys can make it to me before my supplies run out, which is now a concern.
Frequent stops? Consider Day 8. At this point you should realize what's happening.

Day 11: I am currently very frightened. I want these guys to turn back. I know what has happened. I don't know how it happened, but it did. I will write more on my suspicions once I recover sufficient evidence for them. But for now, for future reference, I do not know how it happened.

Day 11, Early Morning: I recovered a journal in the snow. I know my suspicion to be true at this point. What I discovered in the journal was horrible. I refuse to write any of its contents here. I scratched a warning in it as quickly as I could. I know who will find it.

Day 11, Late Morning: The travelers disappeared and then reappeared again. I tried to approach the lone wanderer in person to notify him to turn back, but this was to no avail, as he was hostile and proceeded to cut out a chunk of my back. I had no clue how to react to this. I just ran away.
Refer to Day 9 Afternoon
This realization is too horrible for me to state plainly. My suspicions have been all but confirmed. It all adds up. The tissue analyzer as a zero. The transition of human tracks in the snow to those tentacular... things. Something occurred... The time and space is all messed up due to this beast. I will leave this to the consideration of the reader, whoever finds this log. I hope it is not me this time.
There it is. The plot-twist of the century. Still not understanding the whole story? Here's the breakdown:

The investigation logs were based on a time loop. Actually, more of a time amalgamation, twisting here and there.

On Day 1, the team crosses the border or boundary of SCP-2764's abilities. The next few days, they hear voices. Voices coming from the beast, AKA Joseph Mann.

Now, they immediately find prints as they set off. How? The logical answer is that at that point, Mann had already "become" the beast due to temporal (time) looping. The prints had already been there, both before and during Mann's expedition, by Mann himself. To clarify, Mann created the footprints, but due to time looping, he also found the footprints before he created them. Getting a headache yet?

Now on Day 5, Mann realizes he forgot his analyzer so they go back. This is what he is seeing on Day 10.

Day 6 gets tricky. The tracks go missing and Mann no longer hears the voice. They don't give an explanation for this so I suspect that it's something abnormal happening to the time loop. However, it comes back, and with full force.

Day 7, Mann and his team keeps hearing the words "snow" and "back". That's Mann writing in the journal, wanting the team to head back. However, since he is the beast, anything he thinks of is transmitted to the team.

From this point on, everything falls apart. The beast Mann realizes that he's looking at himself and his team. He desperately wants his team to turn back, and that thought gets sent to his team. He also scribbles the word "leave" into his journal, in a fruitless attempt to stop himself from becoming the beast. However, he gets attacked... by himself. He runs away. At this point, he realizes what's going to happen. He'll keep turning into the beast until he relieves himself of his own role. Over, and over, and over, and over. Time loops are forcing it to happen. And guess what? He can't do anything to stop it.

That's the end of SCP-2764 and the Investigation Logs. Hopefully, the time loops didn't give you a migraine. Don't worry though! SCP: Uncovered will be back next week!

SCP-2764: "Eldritch Antarctic" Part 1/2

Item #: SCP-2764
Object Class: Keter

Tags: BiologicalKeterObservationalSpacetimeTelepathicTemporal

SCP-2764 (Artist's Rendition)

Coming up now is SCP-2764, AKA the Eldritch Antarctic. The tags tell us that it's biological, hard to contain (keter), and affects observation along with telepathy and temporal (time) effects. Interesting! This SCP has extremely lengthy containment procedures, so I will be shortening it. If you wish to see the full version, click the Item #.

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-2764 is currently located in  █████ ████, Antarctica. A perimeter around the radius of SCP-2764 of 75 kilometers has been set. Any civilians within the radius of 150km of SCP-2764 are to be brought in for questioning and administered amnestics. Under no circumstances are any Foundation employees or civilians to get within 30km of SCP-2764. If they are found to have gone within that radius, the person in question is to be questioned thoroughly and either administered Class-A amnestics or terminated.
Ok, so, SCP-2764 is an entity located somewhere in Antarctica. It is either enormous to the point where it requires dozens of kilometers of space, or so hard to contain that it requires that much space. Either way, it's not looking good. There's also a 30km mark where people are to be either A. memory wiped, or B. Killed. Clearly the Foundation doesn't want anyone knowing about SCP-2764. The description is extensive, and as such, I will sadly have to shorten it.

Description:
SCP-2764 is a massive biological entity of unknown origin. It's height measures at about 382 meters and weighs over approximately 150,000 metric tons. It has 75-85 tentacles (estimates vary) and has 4 eyes on what is considered its head. It has anomalous properties including telepathy, rapid translocation of tentacles at supposedly random times, and the ability to "flicker". SCP-2764 never "flickers" past a distance of 25km and always returns back to its original location within 48 hours. The size of SCP-2764 also apparently does not follow Euclidean geometries, as it will be many times larger or smaller than it actually is, until you reach the critical zone, where SCP-2764 "blows up" or grow larger.
The beginning is self explanatory. It's a huge biological thingy that came from nobody knows. It has lots of tentacles and has several abilities. These include the ability to communicate telepathically, rapidly moving its tentacles, and "flickering". What exactly is flickering? It says that it never "flickers" past 25km, so we can assume that it's some kind of ability to teleport or move extremely fast. Non-euclidean geometries are difficult to explain, so the simplest way to say it is that it's difficult to tell it's true size just by looking at it.

This SCP has Investigation Logs. These logs are also the meat of the story, describing the adventures of Mann and his team in researching SCP-2764. Let's get right into it.
Investigation Log, Day [1-3]
Day 1: Subject appears to shrink as we get closer to it, which is strange, because it was growing until we reached a certain point. Also, its horrifically long tentacles move in a particularly strange manner. I plan to investigate further in the coming days and hopefully do a bit of my own research before they send in the main researchers and guards to take over.

Signed, J. Mann

There's the non-euclidean geometry and translocation at work there. Mann seems really interested in the work he's going to be doing. The next few logs get longer, so I will be shortening them if I can. Again, if you want to read the full logs, click the Item #.
Day 2: Last night as I tried to sleep, I kept hearing a strange voice. While I cannot currently recall what it was saying, I am sure it has something to do with the beast out there. I personally see no other explanation, as I was alone and I have no history of hearing voices.

Signed, Mann.

Day 2, Afternoon: I've gathered a few volunteers from the task force. Our job is to secure the anomaly until the main guards get here, not research it. Always better to have more than one person when it comes to witnessing events. I managed to convince 3 other guys to come with me. I plan on approaching this anomaly very closely.

Signed, J. Mann.

Day 2, Evening: I am hearing this voice again. It is currently about 10 o'clock, PM, and I am trying to comprehend what it is saying.
Signed, J. Mann.
J. Mann gathers his crew as he readies to approach the anomaly. Also, references to SCP-2764's telepathy.

Day 3: One of the guys who volunteered said he couldn't go through with it. I can't blame him. I told him it was fine, and that he was free to go. When I asked him why, though, he told me that he had been hearing something talking to him last night. The other 2 seem to still be in it however.

Signed, Mann.
There are 2 other logs for Day 3, but they simply detail his conversation with his crew and setting off. Moving on to days 4-6.
Investigative Log, Days [4-6]
Day 4: We made it about a quarter of the way to the thing. The snow was deep and thick, and to be honest, I'm surprised we even made it a quarter of the way. No signs of any voices heard by myself or them.

Signed, J. Mann.

Day 4, Afternoon: We covered about half the distance we did yesterday, so I would say we're close to halfway there. 3/8ths of the way there, to be exact. The snow is getting deeper as we approach the thing. It still continues to shrink as we approach it.

Signed, J. Mann.

Day 4, Evening: A particularly quiet evening, nothing notable has occurred.

Signed, J. Mann.
They made it almost halfway in about a day. That's impressive.
Day 5: One of the guys reported that he'd heard some strange voices last night. I asked him what they were saying before I revealed that I, too, had been hearing voices. He told me they were unintelligible. I expected this, but it is getting quite frustrating how nobody can decipher what the voices are saying.

Signed, Mann.

Day 5, Afternoon: We forgot our tissue analyzer from the last tent we set up, so we had to go back. We'll be back on track hopefully by the day after tomorrow.

Signed, J. Mann.

Day 5, Evening: The evening is quiet once again. I've heard no voices thus far, and the tracks in the snow were absent during our trek back to the old tent today.

Signed, J. Mann.

Day 5, Midnight: I've been lying awake for some time now. I've realized something's horribly out of the ordinary. As we approached the thing, it got smaller. Well, I would expect it to grow larger as we put more distance between it and ourselves. The problem is, it has not grown larger since this morning as we returned to the tent.

Signed, J. Mann.
That's strange. The creature hasn't been showing the effects of his non-euclidean geometry. Either it lost the effect... or its getting closer.
Day 6: The first opportunity I had, I told the other guys about my realization, and I asked what they thought we should do. We came to the decision to continue forth to the creature. For now, we trek on.

Signed, J. Mann.

Day 6, Evening: The creature has disappeared. We all agree that it was due southeast, but we've checked the compass again and again, but the thing is just no longer there. We will continue on for a day, and if it doesn't reappear, we head back.

Signed, J. Mann.
Oh dear. It's gone missing. Luckily Mann kept his head and decided on a logical plan forward.
Investigative Log, Day [7-9]
Day 7: Once again, I heard the voice. It is now distinguishable as a single voice, as opposed to more than one. The most distinct words were "snow" and "back". The latter is especially eerie, but I can't think anything of it. The other 2 also heard this voice.

Signed, Mann.

Day 7, Afternoon: We've continued for some time now, but it is only three o'clock. The creature has reappeared where we expected it to be, but it has grown considerably smaller. We will continue till about five o'clock.

Signed, J. Mann.
Day 7, Afternoon: It is five o'clock and 2 oddities have occurred. One, we have agreed that the past two hours were definitely a longer duration than 2 hours. On top of space, this creature must also incur a temporal anomaly as well. Second of all, and most disturbing, the tracks in the snow have reappeared. They reappeared last night, but the tracks are no longer human at this point, or anything of this earth. The closest thing I can think of is perhaps a squid which walks on land. This expedition has certainly exceeded its expected duration.
Signed, J. Mann.
Weird things are starting to happen to the team. This doesn't seem good.
Day 8: We awoke early this morning to get a head start. Once again, new tracks appeared in the snow. This time, none of us had any doubt of their non-existence beforehand. If we do not make it to the creature within 2 days, we will abandon the trek and turn back.

J. Mann

Day 8, Afternoon: It is 12 o'clock, and we have made it about nine-tenths of the way there. The creature continues to shrink, but we are definitely very close at this point. We are going to take a brief break and get a few hours of sleep in before we continue. We should lose little time, thanks to the temporal anomaly.

J. Mann

Day 8, Midnight: Our reliance on the temporal anomaly has failed us. It is currently midnight, but we only got a few hours of sleep. I've made the decision to continue forth. My fear for my own safety, and more importantly, my fear for their safety has gone to the point where I have taken full control of the expedition. No more votes.

J. Mann

Day 8-9 Transition: As we continued to walk, the voice made a very clear statement to all of us. This is not verbatim, as I could never hope to remember every incomprehensible word this creature has spoken to us, and I apologize for my vagueness, but we got the intended message. "Turn Back". The tone of voice did not imply any sort of anger or even a hint of territorial jealousy. It sounded more fearful than anything.
Turn back. Ominous, isn't it. The beast is now directly warning Mann and his team to leave, for reasons as of yet unknown.

Unfortunately, Part 1 must end here. Don't worry though, Part 2 is coming right up!

To be continued...
